It is recommended that this training manual be reviewed prior to performing the installation of the telephone package. This document is not an installation guide or procedure, a separate Mercedes-Benz manual has been created for that purpose. However, basic troubleshooting charts are included as a part of this document to assist in correcting problems that may occur. 1.2 Introduction to the Telephone Package (Motorola Digital Phone) Prior telephone systems that have been installed in Mercedes-Benz vehicles have used only 800MHz analog technology. The MY00 uses the 800MHz analog/digital and MY01/05 uses 1900MHz digital in addition to 800MHz analog/digital. MY00 thru MY04 telephone packages use CDMA or TDMA protocols and, MY05 vehicles offer the option of GSM as a third protocol depending on the model selected for installation, which will be determined by the customer and/or carrier availability. Additionally, the telephone package has the ability to automatically default to an analog signal if a digital signal is not available, or is too weak to provide a quality conversation. The telephone package allows calls to be made and received without taking your eyes off the road or your hands off the steering wheel. This is accomplished by integrating the phone with the multifunction controls located on the sides of the steering wheel (if equipped) and through Voice Recognition (if equipped). Displays on the MCS, Audio 30 or COMAND relay information, such as, numbers stored in the handset’s memory, signal strength, etc. Refer to the K2OPTION owner’s manual for details on the various features of this system. 1.2.1 CDMA, TDMA and GSM Protocols CDMA is an acronym for Code Division Multiple Access. It is one of several methods of providing digital cellular service. CDMA imposes several digital signal patterns, one pattern per conversation, on a single carrier frequency. The communication link (conversation) is kept separated from other links by the ability of the telephone to only recognize its assigned signaling pattern (code). CDMA technology is popular because it provides for a large number of communication links on a single carrier frequency, but one of its drawbacks is that as more links are established, distortion and interference increases. TDMA stands for Time Division Multiple Access, and is another method of providing digital cellular service with multiple links (conversations) on the same carrier frequency. It differs from CDMA in that it uses slots of time for each link. Each time slot repeats continuously at a predetermined rate or speed. Samples of each link are taken at the same rate and mixed with the carrier frequency, each in its turn. On the receiving end, the receiver selects the data from the time slots of the assigned communication link, Mercedes Benz Technical Manual for Telephone v4.6 Date: 09/01/2004

Free Mercedes-Benz Vito 109CDI Turbo diesel Manual PDF

Building on the success of the original, Mercedes-Benz has introduced an all new Vito van. Under the streamlined bodyshell is a rear wheel drive platform which offers improved traction and passive safety over its front wheel drive predecessor. Additional model configurations are also available increasing the Vito’s appeal to businesses. In the 109CDI series, buyers have a choice of a standard or long wheelbase van and crew cab, or a high roof van. All versions are fitted with a 65kW turbo diesel (a power increase of 8% over the old model), and 6-speed manual transmission. Pricing starts at $33,990 for the Compact 3- door van tested, while the long wheelbase version (an extra 230mm) is $2,600 more. As expected with any vehicle carrying the three pointed star the list of standard safety features is extensive. It includes; ABS brakes (disc all- round), with EBD and Brake Assist, driver’s airbag, ASR (Acceleration Slip Control), and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). While power steering and windows are standard, air- conditioning is a $2,650 option as is a passenger’s airbag at $735. For anyone on the road day to day a van has to double as an office so you expect it to be functional and comfortable. One of the Vito’s best features is the ease of entry and exit. A low, flat floorpan means you almost walk into the van. The driver’s seat has a wide range of adjustment, but its firm cushion doesn’t offer much support. Adjustable for both tilt and reach the steering wheel moves through a broad arc which should make most drivers

Evolution without end First launched in 1995, the Sprinter transformed the van scene at a stroke. Previously, this type of vehicle was most often associated with austerity and unrelieved functionality, but new engines which combined fuel-efficiency with driving enjoyment changed all that. Now, comfort was no longer a backmarker but a benchmark. The new van stressed safety for all vehicle occupants and its styling, too, was actually worthy of the name. And all of this, needless to say, was accompanied by further improvements in the more traditional virtues of the van – like reliability, manoeuvrability, payload capacity and economy. A trend-setter, not a trend-follower The Sprinter’s evolution over the years has been driven above all by the constant application of fresh thinking to every area of the van. The latest Sprinter has scarcely a component in common with the Sprinter of the first generation. Virtually every feature has been extensively improved. CDI engines, the Sprintshift automated manual transmission, driver and passenger airbags and window bags all became available a long time ago. And now the Sprinter boasts a further raft of innovations, ranging from ESP* (Electronic Stability Program) which incorporates ABS (anti-lock braking system), ASR (acceleration skid control) and BAS (Brake Assist), to extended oil change intervals and thoughtful optional extras like rear air conditioning for passengers in the minibus, the heated front windscreen with rain sensor and an ultrasound reversing aid. Other new options include the automatic transmission for the 5-cylinder CDI engine and the Sound 40 Pro – a communication system based on a telematics platform. After all, the maturity of a vehicle concept is often demonstrated best in the details, whether big or small. *Available for crewbus/minibus versions and panel vans up to 3.5 t perm. GVW (standard on petrolengined models up to 3.5 t, not available for open-body versions)

Safety to match the performance At Mercedes-Benz, a facelift is never just an exercise in cosmetics. Our interest is too firmly focused on fundamentals for that. Optionally, following the latest Sprinter facelift, the lively temperament and performance of the four CDI engines, developing from 60 kW/82 hp to 115 kW/156 hp and the petrol engine (105 kW/ 143 hp) can be kept in check not just by the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and acceleration skid control (ASR) but also by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP)*. ESP* coordinates the operation of the ABS, ASR and also of Brake Assist (BAS), whose function is to ensure even more rapid development of braking pressure.
